Competition

Game Format

Platforms: Cross Platform (PC, Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch)

Team Size: Trios (3v3)

Game Duration: First team to 40 kills

Match Structure: Best of 3 games - first to win 2 games

Queue System: Apex Team Deathmatch runs on Queue System for Fall 2025

Players

Roster Requirements

Team Size: 2-6 players (more strongly advised)

Eligibility: Players must be registered with their school's official coach/advisor

Single Competition: One roster per player, per MiHSEF competition

Substitutions

Any number of players may be substituted between games (not during games) as long as they are rostered and meet team requirements.

Minimum Player Count

Teams must provide minimum 2 players (of 3) at match start. Game forfeiture if under 2 players mid-game. Match forfeiture if unable to field minimum for additional games.

Pre-Match

Communication & Setup

All communication will be done in the MiHSEF Discord or Fenworks match page.

Lobby Creation (Home Team)
  1. Select game mode → bottom left screen
  2. Navigate to "Private Match"
  3. Click "Create Match"
  4. Configure Settings:
    • Mode: Team Deathmatch
    • Map: Determined by map banning process
    • Chat: Allow All
    • Self-Assign Teams: On
    • Aim Assist Override: On
    • Anonymous Mode: Off
    • Game Mode Variant: Standard
Spectating Rules
  • Teams may watch on MiHSEF Twitch or stream for coaching
  • 90-second minimum stream delay required
  • Observer Function is PROHIBITED
  • Abuse results in revoked spectator rights + penalties

Gameplay

Team Composition & Legends

Format: 3 players per team - unlimited legend combinations allowed

Legend Selection: Characters can be changed between games, but not during a single map

Map Selection Process

Game 1: Home bans 1 → Away bans 2 → Home bans 1 → Away picks map
Game 2: Winner bans 2 → Loser picks remaining
Game 3: Winner bans 2 → Loser picks final map

Scoring System

The first team to 40 kills wins the game.

Teams report winner in Fenworks with score reflecting remaining lives.

Example: Team A wins with 10 lives left = 40-30 victory (Team B eliminated at 30 kills)

Stoppage of Play

Pause Conditions

Games may only be paused for:

  • Player Drop/Disconnect
  • Server Crash
  • Severe Technical Issues
Pause Timing Rules
  • Requests within first 90 seconds of map start
  • Must request before ring closes
  • 5-minute reset limit per match
  • Unresponsive teams forfeit after 2 minutes

Restrictions

Permitted Content

All legends, skins, heirlooms, victory poses, emotes, holo-sprays, dive trails, banner icons, and voice lines are permitted in the tournament.

Anti-Cheating Policy

Any intentional use of bugs, exploits, game file modification, or third-party applications for unfair advantage is strictly prohibited. MiHSEF determines prohibited exploits and enforces violations.

Username Standards

Usernames must be appropriate per board guidelines. Prohibited content includes swearing, sexual content, slurs, derogatory terms, or hateful speech.
